  • No one wants to get into a car accident just as no one can predict when a car accident will occur. It is best to be prepared no matter what. And the first step to being prepared for an auto accident would be to maintain safe driving habits in order to prevent an accident from happening in the first place. However, it is still recommended that you prepare for an accident regardless.

Follow these 8 steps to be prepared.

    1. Wear your seatbelt at all times.

Keep yourself safe first. Your life is much more valuable than your vehicle.

    1. Check your insurance.

Be sure to keep your insurance up to date with current vehicles and additional coverage you may need before you begin driving.

    1. Collect information.

If there is another vehicle involved, it is crucial to exchange information with the other driver. You will need their name, license plate number, phone number, and insurance information.

    1. Call 911.

This step is important, especially if anyone is injured or if the accident needs to be moved out of the way. Be sure to get the officer’s name, phone number and the police report number.

    1. Take photos of the scene.

Photos will be useful in determining the cause of the accident as well as the amount of damage done to each vehicle.

    1. Remember the details.

It may even be useful to write them down because you will need to recall the details several times.

    7.    Witnesses?

Are there any witnesses? If so, talk to them about what they saw. They can be very helpful to determine who is at fault.

    1. Contact your insurance company and attorney.

You will likely need to make a claim. But don’t sweat it that is what insurance is for. Hopefully, by utilizing these tips you will be prepared with all the information they will need to help you out as quickly as possible. When things don’t go over as smoothly, be sure to reach out to your attorney for advise or legal assistance.
