  • On August 7, 2012, a helicopter crashed as it came down for a landing on a handmade landing pad in Anchorage, Alaska. The pilot died as a result of the crash.

At the time, air safety investigators had thought that something went wrong with the helicopter as it was coming down to land, causing it to crash. However, after further investigation, they had found that the landing pad, which was made of logs, had a loose log that caused the helicopter to crash and roll backwards down a hill.

Sixty three year old James Hopper of Missouri was the pilot of the helicopter. He died immediately from the accident.
