There are times when it is critical to have the right personal injury attorney by your side to guide you through a case. On the other side of things, there are times when it is not necessary to bring an attorney into the mix. The question many ask is: When should I call a personal injury attorney? We are glad you asked that question and here are some of our tips to help you decide.
When should I call a lawyer if I’ve been in a car accident?
- If the accident was significant enough to cause serious bodily harm or property damage. If broken bones and hospitalization was necessary, it is wise to at least consult an attorney. They may not take the case and instead give you some pointers, but you will have the peace of mind in knowing you are on the right path. A good lawyer will be able to advise you on whether or not you have a case that is significant enough to go to court.
- If your case is going to court. Unless you have the time to research the law pertaining to your case and feel comfortable representing yourself, it is most often the wisest course of action to call an attorney if you have to go to court. Especially a personal injury lawyer will know the lay of the land, understand the law, and know when to hold and when to give.
- If someone died as a result of the car accident. This is a traffic event, and we hope you never have to go through the sudden loss of a loved one as the result of an accident. But if it does happen to you, getting legal council to walk through it and handle it for you can take a lot of weight off of your shoulders.
- There is permanent physical or mental damage. If the car accident resulted in long-term damage, it is most likely that the settlement proceedings will be long and you will need a good attorney by your side to make sure your legal rights are protected, and you get the best chance to win.
We hope you will never find yourself in any of the situations listed above. But if you do, we are happy to sit down with you for a free consultation, so you know your options.
