A lawyer that deals with workers compensation laws is important to have. The situation for needing one may arise out of nowhere, as nobody plans to get hurt on the job. You do, however; want to be able to work fast in these types of situations so that you can get what you are entitled to as fast as possible. Don’t defend yourself, get help, and make it good help. Picking the right lawyer takes some time, and that is why it is important to always know who you would use if you need to.
One thing that is for sure – don’t be deceived by lights and cameras. How they advertise doesn’t mean anything (not saying there is a bad way to advertise), but you have to look past all of that to the experience, testimonials, and relationships they have with clients.
If there is a good lawyer out there, their reputation will precede them. The same goes for a bad lawyer as well. This basically means don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations. The internet can help provide information with articles, forums, and testimonials.
Free consultations are full of questions. From the lawyer about your claim, or you about them. Remember this is no different than a job interview and you are the one hiring. Here are a few questions to ask:
- Do they specialize in compensation claims?
- What is their record?
- How will information be passed between the lawyer and yourself?
- How will payment happen? Only if you win, or is it a straight fee?
These are just a few, there might be plenty you already know you need answers to.
A good lawyer will respond without acting dismissive, they will treat your case with respect and transparency. Know that the decision is ultimately yours, and you do not have to hire anyone you don’t want to.
