The winter offers many opportunities to brush up on safety tips. With ice, snow and the cold temperatures the possibility of personal and workplace injuries is greatly increased. By preparing yourself to stay safe this winter, you can protect yourself from injury and just enjoy all of the fun that winter can offer!
Here are some tips to consider before winter kicks in:
- Shoveling, snow removal and ice melt.
This is a necessary task to keep you and your customers safe from slipping outside. With this preventative task comes another chance for injury. Be sure to shovel properly, using your knees to lift and throw. Fully understand how to operate snow and ice removal equipment as well.
- Winter driving in work vehicles.
Snow and ice can make for extremely dangerous roads. Be very cautious when driving, especially for your employer. See our post about winter driving safety for more information.
- Wear proper clothing.
With the cold temperatures, we need to be aware of the clothing that will be needed to keep us from getting frostbite or hypothermia. Depending upon your occupation, this may be may be more important to some than it will be for others. In addition to warm clothing, consider using ice grippers to prevent slipping on ice.
