After reviewing statistics, Alaska has learned that over 70% of motorcyclists are more to suffer from severe head trauma when injured in an accident without wearing a helmet.
Through 2001 and 2010, information from the Alaska Trauma Registry shows that 745 people were hospitalized from motorcycle accidents. In 2010, Alaska showed that motorcyclists were involved in 16% of all traffic accidents. Nationally, they were 13% involved in all traffic accidents. These statistics did not include those who died at the scene of the accidents, only those who were taken to the hospital.
Due to the overwhelming number of motorcycle accidents in Alaska, it is urged that riders wear a helmet. The law states that those over 18 years old can ride without one, but if you would like to be protected, wearing a helmet will help. You just never know when an accident can happen. A sharp turn, wet road conditions, a negligent driver, is all reasons for motorcyclists to fall victim in an accident.
Do you wear a helmet when you jump on your motorcycle? Have you been in a motorcycle accident? If so, contact an Anchorage accident attorney for legal aid. They can review your case and see if you’re entitled to compensation for your losses.
